Curriculum Vitae

Ivana Follová (1955) graduated from the School of Design Manufacture in Prague. She initially worked as a designer in Ypsilon theatre and in the publishing house Albatros. Thereafter, she founded her own studio under the name if…(1982). She designed cosumes and stage sets for rock bands and dressed personalities from society´s upper reaches.

From 1991 she has hned several shops in Prague, the bigegst being if… art§fashion gallery in the unique space of historical Ungelt. For ten years she presented her own creations as well as of her colleagues, organised countless exhibitions, fabion shows as well as social events. She was the costume designer for Verdi´s opera ´Rigoletto´ as part of the Opera Prague Open Air Festival. She created by hand a coloured curtain (16 x 16 m.) for the performance of the ´Magical Flute´ at the Stavovské (Estates) Theatre in Prague.

For over twenty years she has participated in fashion exhibitions, Brno Trade Fairs, Prague Fashion Week, designblock as well as contributing to the majority of lifestyle and fashion magazines. She regularly organises her own solo exhibitions. She is a member of the Czech designer group CFC. Her work is represented at the Art-Industrial Museum in Prague as well as in Helena Jarošová and Ludmila Kybalová´s book ´Contemporary Czech Fashion´ (2002). She is listed in Who is Who.

In November 2007 she christened a memoir book ´if…inventory´ written by Michaela Zindelová. On a regular basis she participates in many charitable activities. Among her clients are large companies as well as well-known individuals, e.g. Dagmar Pecková, Ilona Svobodová, Bára Štěpánová…for whom she creates concert performance and wedding outfits…she has been also extremely successful in fashion exhibitions abroad. Every year her experience increases as regards dealing with trainees as well as experienced workers in her atelier. And, in fact, it is the atelier which has become her favorite haunt where Ivana can meet her clients.

How did the company logo if…
come into being?

Apart from Ivana´s initials, ´if´ has an English meaning which insinuates, along with the three dots, promise, mystery, playfulness.

Much more than the dictat of modern trends Ivana is more fascinated by the aura of the client actually wearing her creation. Ivana senses her work as a game: with fine lines, materials, colours and various references.
